Gepperth's Meat Market has served the Lincoln Park community of Chicago since 1906 - 111 years and counting! Otto Demke and his wife Dianna bought the business from the Gepperth brothers in 1981 and have been here until 2020. Since, La Boulangerie & Co took over the shop after one year of collaboration between the couple and the company. We are pride to keep the family traditions and treats you like family! Our Philosophy 

Here at Gepperth's we pride ourselves in offering the best products AND the best service. Together, we have accumulated over 100 years of butchering experience. With this level of knowledge we hope to provide you with as much guidance as possible to help you cook the best meal you can. Complimentary cooking instructions and suggestions come with every visit, complete with our own, home-spun humor. 

Additionally, if there's something obscure that you need, chances are we have it or can find it for you. We love to talk about what we do, so please don't be afraid to ask!

Our Story

It all began in 1906 when Frank Gepperth Sr. opened a small shop on the corner of Armitage and Halsted. From there he built up the market till his four sons took over in the late 1920's. Frank Jr., Joe, Emil, and Tony became the iconic face of Geppeth's and grew the store into a staple in Lincoln Park and one of the most revered meat markets in the city.


It wasn't till 1981 that Otto and Dianna took over the meat market and made it what it is today. Otto and Dianna have now owned and operated Gepperth's for 35 years, taking the store into an astonishing 109 years serving the Lincoln Park and greater Chicagoland areas. Since 2020, La Boulangerie & Co took over the shop after one year of collaboration between the couple and the company, time required to acquire the family traditions and recipes.

Our Products

We make all our own sausage in-house, from Moroccan influence, to classic German, all the way to Thai and South African varieties. Otto has been making excellent sausage since 1967 so ask for suggestions or try a little of each! You won't be disappointed. 


This homemade mentality is taken one step further here. We offer homemade stocks and gravies, full meals, appetizer trays, or even a rotisserie-cooked chicken served hot.


We only sell USDA Choice and Prime meats, and Grade A poultry. We know where our meat is sourced and even our ground beef is comprised of prime steak trimmings. Quality and service are not spared a single expense here, come in or give us a call to see for yourself.
